Glasgow Clyde College student organises an Old Firm charity football match in memory of Lennon

A Glasgow Clyde College student has helped organise an Old Firm charity football match in memory of Lennon Toland with all proceeds going to the Glasgow Children’s hospital charity.

Five-year-old Lennon was tragically knocked down and killed by a car in the east of Glasgow in September.

The first year HND Practical Journalism student Stephen McCabe  arranged this event which is a follow-up to Lennon’s Day a fundraising event which was held back in October at the College’s Cardonald campus with former Celtic footballers Neil Lennon, Chris Sutton and Frank McAvennie all at it.

The match will take place on Sunday the 19th of March at Toryglen Regional Football Centre indoor pitches with Old Firm legends such as Ally McCoist, John Hartson and Chris Sutton coming along.

McCabe, who is close friends with Lennon’s family , said: “After that event (Lennon’s Day) I managed to keep in touch with Frank because the family of Lennon are holding an event every single month of 2017 which ranges from skydiving to bungee jumping and the Great Scottish Run.

“So basically what I decided to do was to create an event for them. We are going to have massive names there. We have sold roughly 400 tickets out of 1000 we have so far.”

Make sure to come along and support a worthwhile cause. Tickets are £10 for an adult and kids go free.
