A Scottish Animal rights activist is delighted that well known Australia activist James Aspey is in Scotland this week to spread more awareness about cruelty towards animals.
Lynn Jolly has gained support from James in her fundraising campaign to raise £200,000 to open a vegan animal sanctuary in the West of Scotland.
The 47-year-old from Houston, Renfrewshire saved a cow called Prince last August and two Highland cattle Berry & Bramble at Christmas from being slaughtered.
Aspey grabbed the national headlines down under in 2014 after having a year of silence to raise awareness of animals and “promotion of peace”.
His wake up speech has gone viral across social media mounting over four million views and people will get to heard it during his visit to Glasgow.
Jolly’s YouCaring page has raised over £3,000 so far.
She believes that the sanctuary will act as an educational platform not just for visitors in Scotland but for people who live further afield as well to learn more about the animals.
The Rail worker said: “I kind of hoped it would be quite successful but to take on the level that it has. It has gained a crazy amount of shares.
“It’s an educational space. We are going to educate via live streaming as well. That’s why people around the world are keen to get involved. Worldwide and it will have a bigger impact.”
Aspey is holding talks across Glasgow at the University, Glasgow Clyde College’s campuses and Vegan workshops.
She said: “I have been friends with James on social media for two years. Before he was catapulted into the sort of stardom that he is now.
He has been very supportive, last year there was a few things that I went through personally which was quite difficult. Some of it was to do with Vegan and animal rights.”
She thought up of the idea to invite James over to Scotland while at Manchester Pig Save which is a UK movement that inspires people to make the world a better place for animals.
She said: “When I was there I said to the girl I was with, we should do a vegan disco for a laugh. I could ask James to come over and do something quite simulate. So at New Year, we did a vegan disco to fundraise for getting James over.”
